It's time to shift your focus
Welcome to WTP, the place where we ask "What's the point?" and other better questions.
No matter how you shake it, I hate wasting my time. I’m hyper-aware that once I spend it, I cannot get it back again.
Our world makes the deliberate decision-making required to live a meaningful life both difficult and essential.
We have more options than ever, and they grow exponentially every day. All you need to do is look at the rapid production of content:
1.7 million books were self-published in the last year
100,000 songs are uploaded to streaming platforms daily
2,500 videos are uploaded to YouTube every minute
The tiny computers we carry in our pockets further inundate us with noise and warp our focus. We’re constantly worried we’re missing out or comparing ourselves to the false standards social media pushes.
And that says nothing about all the things I’m responsible for, all the things I could do, or all the things I want to do.
It’s f*cking overwhelming.
.
.
We need to shift our focus.
I started writing my newsletter years ago to connect with people who invest their time in things that are worth their time.
Today, that effort has grown into WTP.
WTP stands for What’s The Point. This question cuts through the noise to focus on how things work. Asking, “What’s the point?” means digging deeper rather than accepting the dominant narrative.
It also means shifting your focus to gain a clearer understanding. It means looking for the root cause rather than addressing the symptoms. It means answering the question you asked, the question you meant to ask, and the question you didn’t know to ask.
That’s what we do here. My writing requires this type of thinking. We can't allow the noise we're inundated with to make us complacent.
As a member of the WTP community, you think independently, debate open-mindedly, and — above all else — value the intense pursuit of a life well lived.
You want the truth even when it’s inconvenient. You want to think without boundaries. You want to find a better way to do things without burning the world down and ruling over the ashes.
You don’t want to settle for what is; you want to pursue what can be. You have big ideas you want to act on because you know your work can make an impact.
And you want to leave a legacy behind.
.
.
As a member of this community, You’re the first to get WTP. That includes the MatterLogic Weekly, which comes out on Monday mornings, and Better Questions, which arrives in your inbox every other Sunday.
You may have noticed that we moved the party over to Substack. I plan to use this platform to grow and strengthen our community. You can now comment on everything we post, so we can engage in a real conversation and deepen our thinking.
I want to earn my spot in your inbox. As the primary writer at WTP, I promise that:
Human beings (not AI) will write all the content, and you’ll always see the author’s byline.
If I don't have something worth reading, I won't waste your time with a crappy post. I’ll pass and try again next time.
Each newsletter will address one thing. No scrolling till your fingers bleed to get to the end.
I will keep things short and simple, but I will never oversimplify.
I'm not writing or sharing anything just because I think it's cool (whatever the hell that means).
I hope this publication and the conversations it sparks help you make the most of your time, reach your full potential, and contribute to the world for the better.
Stay focused,
Katie
